Code 01 — Oud dosage
An extrait is a different concentration with a different job, and it is applied differently. The parameters below are for Kohl at 28 percent oil; they hold for any extrait.
Dose
Two touches: one at the base of each side of the throat. Stop. A wearer who smells the code clearly after ten minutes has exceeded the dose. An extrait is registered by others before the wearer.
Surface
Skin, not cloth. Oud needs warmth to open. On skin it moves through its stages over an hour. On a shirt it stays at the first stage for a week. Apply where there is a pulse.
Conditions
Heat pushes a resinous code forward faster than intended. Kohl is calibrated for cool weather and the hours after sundown. In summer, wear it at night or select another code.
Reading
The first minutes are the least representative. Saffron and smoked tea arrive sharp and settle inside a quarter of an hour. Judge the code at the twenty-minute mark, not at the wrist at the counter.
